Perfectly Presented Portfolio Performance

Client Venture Capital Fund Deadline 24 Hours Doc Year-End Investor Letter

A venture capital fund’s year-end investor letter needed to communicate the performance of each of their portfolio companies—as well as their whole portfolio—while maintaining clarity about their investment thesis and market positioning. Instead, the version they sent me presented strong financials in a confusing, non-linear fashion: mixed treatment of funding terms, missed portfolio companies, and buried compelling information regarding the fund’s positioning.

They provided the letter 24 hours before distributing it to current and prospective investors.

With the understanding that this needed deeper work than proofreading, I began by reviewing the six component documents—main letter, portfolio riders, and appendix—to identify consistency issues and narrative gaps. My goal was to first reorganize the structure and eliminate redundancies to make it flow logically and highlight key data. Once that was complete, I standardized formatting and terminology, fixed inconsistencies, and tightened prose while preserving the fund’s professional voice. I flagged substantive questions and opportunities for fund executives to strengthen specific sections, then proofread the entire letter, cross-checking portfolio data, company names, and financial figures.

The client received an error-free, streamlined investor letter in under 24 hours. The fund returned six months later for their mid-year letter, citing the quality of the work. At the client’s request, this project included light structural editing beyond standard proofreading scope.
